The Jakarta Police had a bit of an event yesterday as they destroyed some 4.5 million pirated DVDs, VCDs, and CDs that they had seized in the period from January to June this year. This represents 55 separate cases and raids in 16 locations, quite a haul. The locations included Indonesia's perennial favourite pirate zones of Glodok and Roxy Square.
I am not sure who sat down and counted all the disks but it was noted that 19% of the disks contained pornographic material. The destruction was not restricted to pirated or illegal disks but it also included legal disks that were used as master copies.
Police have arrested 79 people in connection with this haul of disks and estimate that the state has lost some USD 1.6 million.

It won't work in reality, that's exactly what I consider.
