Obama's Indonesian Wedding Ring...

As media stories go, this must mean that there is no news of real importance out there in the world of national or international affairs or the design of Obama's gold wedding band is in fact news of both national and international importance. I will leave you to be the judge on this one.

Just about everyone in the world must know that Obama has a black Kenyan father and a white American mother. Most all must also know that he spent some of his formative years in Indonesia. Apparently he still has fond memories of the country, and still speaks a little of the local lingo, Bahasa Indonesia, or just plain old Indonesian to the rest of us.

The New York Times magazine has a story on the "First Marriage" , and the story identifies that Barack Obama's wedding ring is not only gold, but that it is crafted in a traditional Indonesian style.

I wonder whether this gives more fodder to the birthers who seem to still be fascinated with whether or not Obama is qualified to be president as they dither between whether he was born in Kenya or Hawaii and whether the president ever held Indonesian citizenship or not as a boy (courtesy of his stepfather, Lolo Soetoro).

In any event, the fact that the "most powerful man" in the world is wearing a wedding band using an Indonesian design is a bit of an advertising and marketing scoop for Indonesian jewelry artisans everywhere. Perhaps, there may now be a run on wedding bands with an Indonesian design.

Is Barack Obama A US Citizen?

Some people just cannot get over the fact that they and their fellow country men and women have elected a black president. This has given birth to something known as the "birther movement". This movement has gained the support of some members of congress who are looking to table a bill, the birther bill, in Congress that would require all candidates for the presidency of the United States of America to provide a birth certificate before being permitted to run.

The whole idea that Barack Obama is not a US citizen is absurd. However, it was one of those things that are great fun to watch. This is in spite of the fact that it is just too bizarre and you cannot help but think that those getting on this band wagon are the proverbial "sandwich short of a picnic basket". It also has the feel of being too bizarre that it just cannot be true, one giant hoax. Even so, it is, as I said, fun to watch.

And, if it is to be funny, then who better than Jon Stewart of The Daily Show on Comedy Central to do it. I am still laughing as I write this post.

Jenna Jameson, Tito Ortiz, and the Twins

This is old news and truth be told I have not been following the film career of Jenna Jameson or the Mixed Martial Arts career of Tito Ortiz. However, I was watching the Celebrity Apprentice and Tito Ortiz was on that. This prompted a Google search and that was the pre-cursor to this post.

For those of you that have been living under a rock, like me, Jenna Jameson is a porn star. I am told that she is pretty good at what she does. I am not a connoisseur of porn so I cannot really comment on whether she is a good actor. I will defer to people with more experience in this field than I to pass comment.

I do not pass judgment on Jenna Jameson or her profession. I am actually supportive of a person's right to choose to appear in adult films. For those moralists out there, then perhaps it is worth considering the not so simple supply and demand arguments. What comes first in this equation, the supply or the demand? Particularly before one gets into what God thinks.

Well, Jenna and Tito welcomed twins, boys, into the world in March. Congratulations! My wife and I have one son and at six months he is already a handful. I am guessing that twins will be at least double the challenge.

Anyways, this is not a post about whether porn should be legal or not nor is it about that is morally right. It is a post designed simply to ask one question:

How is she going to answer the question that goes: "so, mummy, what do you do for a living?"

I ask because I was also watching "The Wonder Years" episode where Kevin tags along one day with his dad to his dad's office in an attempt to find out what his old man does to earn a living.

The Moment of Truth 2

And this has nothing to do with Barack Obama. It does have something to do with biracial though.

Friday mornings are "check-up" mornings at the doctor. They started off monthly, then went fortnightly, and now are weekly. So, yesterday morning was spent at the hospital waiting for the doctor to arrive. Apparently, he had a surgery to perform and was running late.

When he did finally arrive and the USG was done and the prescriptions written, he piped up with, "everything is looking good, and that the birth could be as early as next week!" Now, this was one of those moments where you go, "but you said early December! What's wrong with early December?"

Well, it seems that everything has gone so smoothly to date and the Kid (likely to be named William Alun) has grown to a point where there is not a whole lot more room to grow more, and might just say "bugger it", it is time for me to be out of this small world and into the big bad world on the outside.

Pending Fatherhood -- An Update

I am into the counting days mode already.

The birth might not be expected until the end of November or the beginning of December so I could probably keep counting down in weeks but that would be no fun now, would it? The Doc says that he thinks 7 December is a pretty good guesstimate.

We are excited.

Now, the little fella has obviously inherited the old man's genes as he is about 600 grams heavier than he is supposed to be at this stage. The last time I jumped on the scales I was about 600 grams heavier than I should be too!

He is a really active little bugger as well with a back-to-front sleep clock. That is when we want to sleep he wants to play. This is probably a bigger issue for the wife than it is for me as he practices his mixed martial arts techniques in the womb.
