Official Cicak Logos...

I have always fancied myself as a bit of a gecko as opposed to a crocodile.

So, it has been with great interest that I have watched the Cicak vs. Buaya spat as it unfolded in Indonesia. The Cicak (Cinta Indonesia, Cinta KPK / Love Indonesia, Love the KPK) movement has shown in a very short space of time what is possible when like-minded individuals get together and confront head-on the entrenched and special interests of the few, in this case the buaya (crocodiles of the Police and AGO).

This is people power, or perhaps gecko power, in action. And, what action it has been in the sense that the recently re-elected SBY has been presented with the perfect opportunity to cement his mandate, and his legacy, as a reformer by cleaning house and getting rid of all of the dead wood in the Indonesian National Police Force (Polri) and the Office of the Attorney General (AGO).

Long Live the Cicak!

Thanks for the spam.

Too bad that you don't have anything on topic to say!

I wonder if SBY will actually do anything or this just a natural re-positioning of the crocodiles. Perhaps I am wrong but maybe a nation in this day and age only gets so many chances to get it right before it spirals into failed state status.

One things for sure, if the crocs are still in charge when the natural resources start to run out..pity the people then

Rob,

The Cicaks have one more opponent: the DPR. During hearing with the Police most members of its 3rd. Commission(Law) attended and applauded their guests' speech, causing big protests.
When they met with NGOs last night there were more guests than members, ended unsatisfactorily that the Head of Commission walked-out.

I guess time will tell on the natural re-positioning thought. Although, it is an excellent opportunity for the "big man" to step up to the plate.

Yep, but the crocs have been talking about better management of natural resources with a view to stretching them out a little further.

It was never going to be easy. Simply, entrenched and special interests never just role over and give the game away, there is always too much at stake.

But, the applause by the Commission III members is one of those shake your head moments because it would seem pretty clear that a much larger majority of their constituents are in favor and support of the KPK rather than the police.

Oh well.

I don't envy the guy that gets the job to clean out the pens...where would he/she start? Who could you trust?

I wonder what the late great HL would say perhaps..

They wasn't crowded much with lords
When they was pioneering.
But now that we have made the land
A garden full of promise,
Old Greed must crook 'is dirty hand
And come ter take it from us.
So we must fly a rebel flag,
As others did before us,
And we must sing a rebel song
And join in rebel chorus.
We'll make the tyrants feel the sting
O' those that they would throttle;
They needn't say the fault is ours
If blood should stain the wattle!

Rob,

In spite of what's going on lately, I am wondering why has Antasari 'betrayed' KPK by giving the testimony? Why must he asked for confirmation from Anggoro, who was in Singapore hiding from KPK, about Bibid & Chandra who were his own subordinates?

I guess one of the real dangers of this, is the KPK is painted as all innocence and light. Commonsense n history would dictate that is not possible. Its the whole process, checks, balances that has been mutated into something rather evil.

As I said where would you start and would you believe it. We had a visit today from some uniformed thugs demanding (ever so nicely) that we really should donate to their cause (private banks account of course)the refusal was meet with "we will report you to immigration"...yawn...

It all seems a little out of whack (no pun intended considering what Antasari is charged with).

I guess the case will unravel before out eyes as it goes along. Although, Antasari is probably trying to save his own skin. So, making a statement (unsworn I believe) and implicating others might make it go easier for him, maybe? He has since retracted most of it and said it was given under duress.

There seems like there could be a bit of a deluge of retracted testimony in his case, and this one as well.

The truth aside (for the moment), the case against Chandra and Bibit is weak. And, the continuously changing testimony makes the case look even weaker. This is why conspiracies are so hard to keep; the more people that know details, the more likely it is to unravel.

Are you suggesting that the KPK is not all innocence and light?

Is that the issue on this one at the moment?

Focusing specifically on the Chandra and Bibit issue and not on the broader KPK, the question is, "Have the police done enough, and do they have enough evidence, to justify their actions?" A second question would be, if the answer is no to the first one, then "why are the AGO going so hard at this one?"

Argh...the old donate to us or we will report you deal. Yawn, indeed.

Feel free to tell all and sundry what you really think.

However, you need to adopt a pseudonym, at least, or otherwise you run the risk of me deleting your comments.

"Are you suggesting that the KPK is not all innocence and light?"

I would say its a fair bet but agree its not the issue..process and a degree of serving the people instead of themselves is.

ANON..Is that like a generic name that all seriously dumb comments must be made under..However off topic as it is I am bloody good dancer (or was). As for my personal ethics and honesty, you may not agree with what say but yes I am in all things. As a very wise man once said the "only thing that cannot be taken from you is your reputation only you can give that away"

How can one ever be sure? That is the deal with corruption, isn't it? Everything looks all sweet and rosy on the outside until the rotten core is revealed.

However, that said, the KPK looks positively clean compared to most other institutions in Indonesia, doesn't it?
