I have gotta say, I find these YouTube lip-syncing karaoke clips a lot of fun to watch. Here is a version of Justin Bieber's "Baby". It looks like a young Indonesian kid. What is really impressive is that the lip syncing that he does is pretty much spot on all the way through, including the part that Ludacris does. He would give Milli Vanilli a run for their money, no doubt.

The Royal Wedding: A Preview and A Practice Run...
This is very funny from T-Mobile. T-Mobile have obviously gone to some trouble to track down some real good look-a-likes.
I wonder if Prince William and Kate (aka soon-to-be Princess Catherine) Middleton have watched it and had a little chuckle. Come to think of it, they are probably pretty busy.

Jozef Wadecki: Doing Poland Proud on the Gymnastics Front...
If you have not worked it out yet, it is school holiday time. I have a couple of weeks off, sort of. I am preparing a presentation abstract for a conference in August. It is also an opportunity to do some blogging. Although my personal blogging is for fun and to humour myself by ranting and railing on whatever takes my fancy or posting the weird and wonderful I discover while surfing the internet. Blogging is something that I am going to start doing with my students. The plan is to set up unit related blogs that the students contribute to and use to work through the unit of work.
Anyways, on my travels today, I came across this video of Jozef Wadecki doing a tumbling run. Awesome!

Talk Of The Town -- The Colli Crew...
I have only been teaching for a short period of time at Collarenebri Central School. However, in a term I have had the opportunity to be involved in many great projects and activities. One of the proudest and most enjoyable moments has been the "raps" that the Colli Crew have been making with the expert assistance of Toby Finlayson of Desert Pea Media and the dedicated staff of the school.
I have included the link her and embedded the video for your ease. However, please clink on the link and go to the You Tube video and watch it there as often as you like. Here is the video.
This is destined to be "our" best rap yet. The reasons are simple: the message is real and it is timely.
On a personal level, it has been very rewarding to see these young people come out of their shells and commit themselves to something that is so much bigger than themselves. It has been fantastic to see how these young people have responded to the internet / YouTube fame that they have encountered. It was, and is, rewarding to watch these young people grow and develop as they start to realise that the world is there and opening up before them.
Superb effort and my whole-hearted congratulations to all those involved.
I am proud to have been associated with the project.

The Colli Crew - Change the Game...
Working in a small central school like Collarenebri Central School provides so many opportunities to do things and be part of programs that are integral to creating and sustaining change in the lives of the children of the community. The YouTube video above is one that we worked on for just a couple of days with the students.
Needless to say, Toby Finlayson of Desert Pea Media is a real talent in getting the kids to develop their own ideas into something as powerful as what you see above. He has also done an excellent job in producing the video.
Yet, the project would never have come to fruition without the dedicated support of the school through the Principal, the Assistant Principal and the Aboriginal Education Officer.
Ultimately, though it is the students who make the whole thing work. Congratulations to them all.
May this be the first step in "changing the game" for these students.
Feel free to share the video. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in finding out more about the "step-by-step" project that this is part of. And, feel free to contact me if you would like to set up a video conference or some sort of exchange of idea, such as a video conference, and I can put you in contact with all the right people.
Enjoy.

Collarenebri Central School -- Generation One -- Closing the Gap...
If you watch one thing today, then watch this.
This is why I came back to teaching.
This is a rap that Collarenebri school students put together. It has become a very highly acclaimed piece of art. They performed it last year at the ARIA ceremony at the Opera House down in the 'Big Smoke' (aka Sydney). They have received numerous requests to perform it elsewhere.
My personal view is that these students need to be nominated for a ""Deadly". A Deadly is an award for excellence. In some forms of Aboriginal English the word deadly means excellent.
We are going to be working on a new rap this year. Hopefully, we will work on new raps every year. The students love getting involved and it has been a very positive influence on the students, the school, and the community as a whole.
The video is courtesy of Desert Pea Media.
All of these students remain in school.
Enjoy your weekend.

Rear View Girls...
Now that it has been done, one is left wondering why it had never been done before.
Rear View Girls - Los Angeles is a video that two New Zealanders who are living in LA put together. The video has gone viral on YouTube and I post it here for ease of access. However, I encourage you to go visit them on YouTube and watch it there. So, far almost 1.2 million others have made the trip.
To be honest, I am not sure how they rigged the camera, but it is pretty clear from the shots in the video that most of the guys had no idea what was going on. Neither did the women who were caught holding that lingering glance a little too long.
Oh, the video. right. The basic premise was that men ogle the bums of women whenever given the opportunity to do so. It does not matter whether they are single or partnered, wearing a suit and tie or board shorts and riding a skateboard. The two young women, Jessie Gurunathan and Reanin Johannink (interesting names as well), who made this film were of the belief that if given the opportunity to look, then men would not be able to help themselves but to look.
The most humourous one must be the one where Jesus gets caught taking a sneak peak and then stealing a second glance as well. Go Jesus! I guess it has been a while since he had the opportunity to ogle Mary Magdalene...but I digress!
The outcomes of that belief are pretty self-evident on the video.
Enjoy.

Texting and Walking and Falling and Suing...
This is the video that started off a trend. It had plenty of people rolling around on the floor laughing or in abbreviated speak ROFLMAO.
And, this is the response of the woman (albeit a beat-up of the interview she gave to Good Morning America on ABC), Cathy Cruz Marrero. Marrero is the unfortunate soul who was caught on the mall CCTV falling into a water fountain in the Berkshire Mall in Pennsylvania while she was texting her friend.
Now, it seems that Marrero has decided that it is probably worth trying to sue the mall where she fell into the fountain. It appears that Marrero and her lawyer, James Polyak, believe that they have a case to pursue because Marrero could have been seriously hurt and because the security guard did not organise for someone to come to her aid. The security guard was clearly too busy laughing to organise a call for someone to help, or was he. It is yet to be proven when the tape that appears on YouTube was actually made.
The YouTube version, at least to my technologically challenged brain, to be a mobile phone video of the CCTV footage. This could have been made 5, 20, 50 minutes after the Marrero fall. It could have also been made 2 or 3 days later. However, more research is required on that front. Nevertheless, watching the footage suggests that Marrero was not badly hurt as she gets out of the fountain and then high-tails it out of there. There is good reason why Marrero does this. She is an employee in a store that operates in the Mall. In any event, she did not hang around and wait for any assistance to be rendered.
The security guard that was on duty when the fall occurred has been fired.
The truth of the matter is that the footage should never have become public. But, that is the nature of the world we live in now. Technology ensures that much of the stupidity we get caught out doing or being a part of will one day makes its way online. Yet, how much should the mall management be expected to stump up for the footage making it into the public domain?
Unfortunately, for Marrero, and by her own admission, texting and walking at the same time can be dangerous as she has found out the fountain fall way. The reason she fell into the fountain was because she was not paying attention. For the mall to be liable for the fall means that the courts would have to accept that they have a responsibility to fence of fountains and place warning signs throughout the mall that it is dangerous to text and walk at the same time because you might walk into a fountain, or a glass door, or fall down an escalator.
Perhaps the answer is that malls ban mobile / cell phones. That is, when you come to the mall you have to check your phone at the "phone counter". You get a ticket and can reclaim your mobile phone on the way out of the mall.
There has to be a point where people start assuming more responsibility for their own actions, doesn't there?
Sometimes, though, your fifteen minutes of fame ensure that the spotlight shines on all of your past. Although the interview would suggest that Marrero's unfortunate spill occurred while texting a friend from church, it would seem that Marrero's past is not all angelic. As it turns out, Marrero is also involved in a court case where she has been charged and indicted for theft by deception. Marrero used a co-worker's credit cards to buy more than USD 6000 worth of goods from Target and Zales. Apparently, if found guilty, Marrero is to be sentenced to six months house arrest and required to wear an electronic monitoring device. I wonder if the electronic monitoring device is waterproof?

Heidi: 15 Minutes of Opossum Fame...
The internet and social networking media is a powerful tool and a revealing insight into what makes us tick as human beings. Heidi the cross-eyed opossum is an excellent example of both this power and insight.
Heidi is an opossum. She is 2.5 years old. Her claim to fame is that she is cross-eyed and incredibly cute and cuddly.
She also has a Facebook page with 80,000 fans, a YouTube song, and soon a plush toy replica of herself. Heidi and her sister Naira came from a zoo in Denmark and are soon to be the resident attractions at the Leipzig zoo in Germany.
Heidi is to be the main draw in a tropical exhibit that the Leipzig zoo is opening in July. In essence, Heidi's fame is peaking way before the exhibit actually opens and people, or is that "fans", get to see her in the flesh.
So, if one can harness the power of the internet and social media for an opossum, I wonder what you could do for the promotion of an out-of-left-field political candidate, say in the 2014 Indonesian presidential election (after all, it worked for now President Obama in the US, right?)
You have to admit, she is really cute...

Ted Williams: The Voice of the Homeless?
The power of the internet and social networking media is amazing and life-changing in many cases. Sometimes this is a bad thing, but there are those occasions where it is a good thing. One would hope that the story of Ted Williams turns out to be one of those good ones.
If you feel the need to learn more about Ted Williams and his story then start here or here.
In a nutshell, and from what I can tell, Ted Williams was a radio announcer in his younger years. He fell on hard times as a result of alcohol and drugs and a few "other things". He ended up homeless and panhandling out in Ohio on the I-71, and from there, the rest is history as they say.
Let's hope that the second chance Ted Williams finds himself with is one that he grasps with both hands. There is surely a powerful message of hope and perseverance in this story that bad things happen but good things can happen too.
If nothing else, you would have to agree, it is an amazing gift that he has. His voice is just so engaging.

Happy New Year...
To one and all...
Happy New Year 2011!
I trust that the coming year will be a most excellent one. I hope that it is one that sees all your dreams come to fruition. May the year be one that is happy and rewarding, both personally and professionally, an that you get to share all of those moments with family and friends.
For us, the "adventure" will soon begin. We will be off to Collarenebri. I was expecting to get appointed to a remote and rural location. So, in that sense, Collarenebri was not that much of a shock. Interestingly, it was one of the schools that I looked up when I was seeing where I might get appointed to.
The next three years, at least, for us are pretty much mapped out as I will be completing the terms of a scholarship that requires me to stay at Collarenebri. However, we are also intending to make the odd trip "home" to Indonesia. It is important for Will (and for Dyah too) to get back to Indonesia and get to know his Indonesian side of the family and to learn a little bit about his Indonesian heritage.
Anyways...
This is what the fireworks looked like in Sydney!
Once again, Happy New Year to all!

Rhema Marvanne: Precocious Talent...
Some people, including children, just get really lucky on the talent front. Rhema Marvanne is one of those youngsters who seem destined for a big future considering she is just eight-years-old!
Here she is singing "All I Want For Christmas", and doing it well. I reckon the youngster holds her own seeing the song has been done previously by the likes of Mariah Carey and Elvis Presley.
None of that lip-syncing stuff here.
Enjoy!
And here she is singing "Amazing Grace", truly amazing for an 8-year-old. Then again, it is a pretty fine rendition for any age! Although, come to think of it, I think she is only 7-years-old in this video.
And for those who are patriotic Americans, here is a version of the Star Spangled Banner. Interesting adaption of the national anthem, and I have heard some interesting adaptions in my time, particularly of people murdering the tune! This is not one of them.

Trans-Jakarta Busway vs. New York Subway: The Flashers...
The Trans-Jakarta Busway as had a few recent "groping" incidents. These were essentially men grabbing and touching women in places women would not be expecting to be touched in a public bus. The police tended to encourage the women not to pursue their allegations any further as they are too difficult to prove. This resulted in some CCTV equipment being installed as a deterrent.
In contrast, the groping went to a much more extreme level in New York recently with the groper actually being a flasher who thought he would rub his penis up against his victim. Interestingly, no CCTV footage here, but some mobile phone video camera footage of the aftermath.
Perhaps, with the technology available to us in 2010 citizen journalism may capture a whole lot more video evidence than we might have had access to in the past, particularly real-time evidence at the scene of the crime.

Football's Worst Ever Miss?
This comes from the 2010 Asian Games. The game is a quaterfinal match between Qatar and Uzbekistan. The young man that misses the golden opportunity is Fahad Khalfan. What makes this miss extra special is that it happened in extra time and ultimately Qatar lost the match 1-0.
You have to feel sorry for this young man, don't you?
Enjoy!

Keenan Cahill and 50 Cent -- A Duet...
YouTube is an awesome tool in terms of taking regular people from obscurity into the halls of world-wide fame.
Keenan Cahill is an example of this phenomenon. Keenan has developed a cult following by posting videos of himself lip-syncing. What is really cool is that he has developed his own fame with a webcam and an iPod. The technology is really simple. What is not so simple is having the drive to continue to do it and put yourself out there into cyberspace.
All Cahill's hard work, or is it a hobby, has paid off. His latest effort is a duet with 50 Cent. The song is 50 Cent's "Down On Me".
Enjoy.
I reckon Cahill's effort with Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" is a little better on the lip-syncing front, but hey, 30 million hits on your YouTube account later, who cares?

Tifatul Sembiring on the Colbert Report...
It would seem that Tifatul Sembiring (aka TitS) has gone global in ways that he would never have imagined he would. What is perversely funny about this whole affair is that it is nothing more than a handshake that did it.
The man is an embarrassment.

The Physics of Penalty Kicks...
It is better to be safe than sorry, right?
I used to play soccer when I was a kid, but pretty much stopped when they started calling it football. I have taken a few penalty kicks in my time. I have not seen one like this before.
Enjoy!

Meg Whitman, Press Secretaries, Twitter, and an Oops Moment...
I am not sure what the YouTube video below has to do with an endorsement from the San Diego County Deputy Sheriffs' Association other than the fact that Meg Whitman's Press Secretary inadvertently left out a letter at the end of the bit.ly link and instead of getting the endorsement they received the video.
Another one of the dangers of the over-zealous use of technology, perhaps?
Ho hum...
and the actual link that was supposed to be part of the Tweet.
Don't know about you, but the "other" endorsement might work as well.
Thanks to buzzfeed for the links.

Some Classic Chaser -- Australian Federal Election 2010...
As I was wondering round the seemingly infinite realms of the internet universe I came across some videos relating to the recent Australian Federal Election. They are the products of the very funny Chaser Team that have been responsible for the very funny "The Chaser's War on Everything" on the ABC.
The first one is a dig at Julia Gillard. The current Prime Minister of Australia (at least until the independents do their thing).
The second one is a little more risque in terms of the language, but very funny all the same!
