Rear View Girls...

Now that it has been done, one is left wondering why it had never been done before.

Rear View Girls - Los Angeles is a video that two New Zealanders who are living in LA put together. The video has gone viral on YouTube and I post it here for ease of access. However, I encourage you to go visit them on YouTube and watch it there. So, far almost 1.2 million others have made the trip.



To be honest, I am not sure how they rigged the camera, but it is pretty clear from the shots in the video that most of the guys had no idea what was going on. Neither did the women who were caught holding that lingering glance a little too long.

Oh, the video. right. The basic premise was that men ogle the bums of women whenever given the opportunity to do so. It does not matter whether they are single or partnered, wearing a suit and tie or board shorts and riding a skateboard. The two young women, Jessie Gurunathan and Reanin Johannink (interesting names as well), who made this film were of the belief that if given the opportunity to look, then men would not be able to help themselves but to look.

The most humourous one must be the one where Jesus gets caught taking a sneak peak and then stealing a second glance as well. Go Jesus! I guess it has been a while since he had the opportunity to ogle Mary Magdalene...but I digress!

The outcomes of that belief are pretty self-evident on the video.

David Beckham Does Newcastle: Football Clinic Style...

David Beckham is in Australia at the moment. It is part of an end-of-season tour for the Los Angeles (LA) Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS) fame. The Australian part of that tour includes an exhibition game against the struggling, financially, Newcastle Jets.

Aside from the friendly football, it is also an opportunity for Becks to run a soccer / football clinic or two. The clinic saw the participation of 680 children from some 20 local schools. Apart from the obvious skills and 'stuff' that football clinics are all about, it was also an opportunity for Beckham to re-tie the odd shoelace when they came undone. Even Becks knows you cannot take a free kick with an undone shoelace.

If nothing else, this photo suggest that David Beckham is a genuinely humble fellow that is as comfortable running round with a group of soccer mad youngsters as he is running around some of the world's greatest and largest football stadiums.

I am pretty sure that young Harrison Jones is going to get a real kick out of telling the story of this picture as he goes through life.

It has to be really tough sometimes to always live your life under the constant glare of public scrutiny.

Obama, The Joker, Hope, and Socialism...

Is this picture racist? Or, is it acceptable under the definition of freedom of speech and freedom of expression provisions? Or, is it acceptable political parody?

The image has been finding itself posted in and around Los Angeles and has caused quite a stir. The racial overtones relate to the fact that it is Obama and the image is supposedly intended to be a take on the black and white minstrel theme in reverse. Or, it could simply be a comment on the current debates surrounding the development of a health care bill.

For those who are fans of Batman, then they will recognize that the picture picks up on the image made famous by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight.

Interestingly, no one has claimed responsibility or ownership of the image.

Obama -- The Race Question

Although many are saying that this Presidential contest is not about race, I still wonder whether race is a simmering issue under the surface that may in fact decide this election. The question may ultimately be, will other factors like the economy trump race as an issue?

Most people when asked a question about race would answer that they are not racist or that race is not an issue. However, when push comes to shove in the ballot box and where no one is watching, will voters vote based on race?

Obama might be leading in most polls at the moment and he is leading comfortably in some. Nevertheless, there is precedent here for a black (African-American for the more politically correct) candidate to be leading a race only to be done over in the ballot box. When Los Angeles Mayor, Tom Bradley, ran for the Governorship of California he was leading comfortably in the polls in the lead-up to the election. Yet, he still lost the election once the counting was complete.

This was 1982, perhaps it is different now. What most pundits believe is that white voters when polled were not acknowledging the fact that they would not vote for a black man. Are things different now?
