Bono: Shrewd Investor?

I have always been a U2 fan.

I have always been a fan of Bono. I might not always agree with his politics or his methods, but I do admire his commitment to the causes that he embraces. And, I appreciate that he uses his fame in ways that brings attention to those causes.

As it turns out, Bono has also proved to be a shrewd investor. It turns out that a small £132 million investment in Facebook has blossomed to be worth some £485 million in a short space of time. Much of this increase can be attributed to the recent Goldman Sachs investment in Facebook. The Goldman Sachs investment has meant that the 1.5% of Facebook that Bono owns has more than tripled in value.

So, if the founder and CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, ever does take the global juggernaut of social media networking public through an IPO, then it is fair to say that Bono is sitting on the veritable goldmine. This is a good thing for the causes and charities that he believes in and supports as they are most likely to benefit from increased levels of funding finding its way to initiatives that they are undertaking.

Yeah, it would seem that Bono is a shrewd investor!

With or Without You...

This is one of my favourite U2 songs of all time.

I am sure there are plenty of arguments as to what the lyrics mean. Yet, my take is that songs are intensely personal affairs that we find individual meaning in for ourselves. I am sure that the lyrics have a particular, and special, meaning for Bono. However, it does not really matter what that meaning is in the grand scheme of how each of us personalize the experience of the music and the lyrics.

This post is not about indulging my readers of the intensely personal meaning that the song has for me. To the contrary, the post is more of an opportunity to post a good version of the song along with a interesting video clip of it being performed live.

Peace!

Precocious Talent...

I was actually playing around in You Tube looking for a Simon & Garfunkel video of "The Boxer" (which I found) and came across this kid, Sungha Jung, who has a stack of videos of him playing acoustic covers of some classic songs. Precocious talent might be a bit of an understatement for this kid.

If I could play the guitar half as well as he does then I would probably be twice as happy as he is. Awesome.

I am embedding a couple of my favourites. The first is a cover of "With or Without You" by U2 and the second is an amazing little cover of Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry".

Enjoy this kid's talent!

Is this kid good or what?

Bono & The Scots

Self-righteousness does not necessarily work during concerts in Scotland even when you are Bono and from one of the biggest bands of the last 20 or so years, U2...

Thought the Scots and the Irish worked together in defeating the English in Braveheart! I guess it was just a movie after all!
