Are Mr and Mrs Obama Muslim?

Some kindling for the fire...

I wonder how long till these photos become "talking points" on conservative television and radio as proof positive that not only is the President a Muslim, but his wife is as well. After all, photos don't lie, do they?

No apologies for posting these pictures (by way of Reuters). The photos are from the visit Mr and Mrs Obama (aka Mr. President and the First Lady) made to the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta this morning.

France, Muslims, Hijab, Banks, and Discrimination

France has certainly been pro-active in dealing with this one over the years. The French government has banned head scarves or the hijab and other religious clothing from primary and secondary schools in 2004. More recently, Muslim women wearing burqinis have been barred from public swimming pools on health grounds. And now, Société Générale refused to let a 24-year-old female Muslim customer enter the bank, unless she removed her headscarf. This was for security reasons.

Political Correctness vs. A Sense of Humour

As I am prone to do in the wee hours of the morning I have been surfing the Internet and amusing myself with the myriad of sites that are there to be seen. I came across the cartoon that I have posted here. My first reaction was to smile.

Nevertheless, the PC radar clicks in and my mind wanders to heated debates about whether a burqa can be worn for a photo on some one's driver's licence or in some one's passport. Then it wanders to whether the State can regulate whether a Muslim child or girl can where the hijab at school.

This all happens from a single cartoon that is designed to challenge our politically correct biases while making us laugh at ourselves.
